British Endurance Racing Championship – 2023

Podium Finisher | United Kingdom

Humaira made history as the first and only Indian woman to secure a podium finish at the British Endurance Racing Championship — competing head-to-head with some of the world’s most seasoned male drivers and proving her mettle on an international stage.

On October 14, 2023, Mushtaq participated in the final race of the BEC held at the Donington Grand Prix. Driving a powerful 620 hp Aston Martin, this marked her debut on an international stage, solidifying her status as a pioneer for female racers in India and South Asia. She is also recognized as the first woman from South Asia to obtain an ITCCC license, which enabled her participation in this championship.

Mushtaq’s journey into motorsports began at a young age; she started go-karting at just five years old. Over the years, she progressed through various racing formats, including Formula racing, and has gained significant recognition for her performances. Earlier this year, she achieved a podium finish at the Madras International Circuit.

Overcoming Challenges

In her own words, Mushtaq described the challenges she faced entering a male-dominated sport: When I started, it was of course very challenging and full of struggle… I felt a sense of responsibility too since I was the first Indian woman and sole representative. Despite these hurdles, she remains focused on her passion for racing and aims to inspire other women to pursue their dreams in motorsports.

Future Aspirations

Looking ahead, Mushtaq is gearing up for the next season of the BEC, which starts in March 2024. She expressed excitement about continuing her racing career and improving her skills on the track. Mushtaq emphasizes that her gender takes a back seat when she is racing: The beauty of motorsports is I get to express my belief and my passion… I feel empowered since I get to be judged based on my talent rather than my gender.

Conclusion

Humaira Mushtaq’s recent accomplishments are not just personal victories; they represent a significant step forward for women in motorsports in India. As she continues to break barriers and set new standards, she serves as an inspiration to aspiring racers across the country. With her dedication and talent, there is no doubt that we will see more remarkable achievements from this pioneering racer in the future.
